April 2012
Theme: Hoppin' to the Farm
April is a wonderful time in our area and our Music-N-Motion students are excited to celebrate all that April has to offer. We are working on a lot of gross motor skills this month and we are also training our brains by using repetition and memory skills songs.
April has us hopping like a bunny, but we are hopping with a purpose. Hopping is a great aerobic activity, and when you combine it with math and listening skills; you have a supper song that teaches! Children have so much energy that has to be released. Try having them hop at home, but you tell them how many hops they can do. Have them count the hops with you. They love this simple interaction and you will love the amount of energy it uses!!!!
Our favorite musical instruments for April are the shaker eggs. We are using them frequently in the month of April. We are learning that music can be very loud or very soft, and that we can play our instruments the same way. Just like when they are learning to use their inside our outside voices, they are learning that music also has a soft and hard side.
We will be going to the farm in April, and this is a favorite thing to do for all children. They love the songs about animals and the sounds they make. This April we will be visiting our imaginary farm and doing farm chores! I think they are surprised in how much they have to get done on the farm when the sun comes up, but they get to crow like a rooster and you know they love that. Sorry for any early morning rooster crowing at your house.
April also starts our taking care of the Earth unit. We are learning that it is our responsibility to care for our planet. We are singing about what to do with items you no longer want. Reduce, Reuse and Recycle are very important ideas for them to learn. Some students were very surprised that they couldn't recycle their sisters!
Our alphabet pals for April are Benjamin Bunny and Elmo the Elephant. Please reinforce the letter B and E at home by looking for things that start with these letters and by looking for words in story books that start with these letters. Our alphabet pals are helping us learn to read.
Music-N-Motion is constantly reminding your children how wonderful they are. They love learning and singing, it is the perfect blend. Please feel free to visit a class with your child, we would love to meet each and every Music-N-Motion parent.
Here are a few songs that reinforce our theme:
1.
These Eggs are Made for Shakin:' - One of our instrument songs that stresses beat and rhythm..
2.
Gonna Hop, Hop, Hop – Our aerobic song of listening and doing. This is so hard for the children to learn to control hop, but listening is the key to this fun song/game.
3.
Counting to 10 – Our Spanish song for April. We will practice counting from 1-10 in Spanish.
4.
Uncle Pete had a farm – We are learning animal sounds and animal sign language while visiting Uncle Pete's farm.

6.
Rubber Boot Boogie – This is our Dance song that has us jumping in rain puddles with our rubber boots on. This is quickly becoming a favorite.
7.
Don't Throw Your Junk in my Backyard – Our introduction song to our taking care of the Earth unit. Please ask your kids what they should do with their unwanted items. It will touch your heart.
